IR-drysystems for web offset
The IR-dryers, made by Jac. de Vries Infroodtechniek are generally located so the web must run through it just before entering the rewinder, sheeter or folder. The used shortwave IR lamps have a very short response time. The heat is direct available when it is switched on and also immediately gone when it is switched off. Because of this and the fact that the web temperature stays below 100°C/212F (70 to 80°C/158 to 176F is enough) makes this a safe way of drying your web. The IR dryer is designed and installed on the press so that virtually all the radiation is directed into the web. If necessary the IR panel will be custum made to fit into the available space on your press.
Advantage of IR-drysystems for web offset
- Drying at printing speed, before the paper enters the rewinder, sheeter or folder to avoid damaging of the paper.
- Low investment in comparable with hot air dryers and much more economical (less use of energy).
- Safe (temperature stays below 100°C/212F) switches very fast on and off.
- Absolute harmless for the health.
- Short installation time.
- No extra expensive investments required for combustion or filtering.
- No environment poltution: as well in as outside the building.
- Compact building size with a high drying capacity.
IR drying makes more possible and upgrades you presses
Not only the printing speed can be increased, but IR drying makes it also possible to print more colours on your web f.e. for newspaper and forms web press. Your print quality will be improved using your present stock, or print with even higher quality on a larger variety of paper stocks. Greater press capability will enable you to be more competitive and improve your profitability on your present jobs.
Advantage of Jac. de Vries IR dryers for web offset
- Standard delivered with shortwave IR lamps so the IR can be used immediately at full power after it is switched on;
- The IR lamps are also immediately cooled down after it is switched off, so no fire risk;
- Integrated aircooling on the IR panels with optimal protection agains overheating;
- Stepless power control of the IR lamps (handcontrol or automatic controlled by measuring the web temperature or the production speed);.
- Average lifetime of the IR lamps switched on at full power is about 5000 uur. Because the IR output will be reduced most of the time by the stepless powercontrol, the average lifetime can be doubled;
- Standard we place the IR lamps lengthwise to the paper direction and is it possible to change the drying width according to the papersize (also halfweb size). In this way we make the IR dryer always the same size as the maximum papersize that you can run through your press;
- Clear and easy to to use controlpanel;
- Modular built system, easy replacement of parts which all can be delivered from stock;
- Solid and compact built IR panels which can be placed behind each printing unit.
Standard IR-dryers for Web Offset
Jac. de Vries Infraroodtechniek supplies different standard Infrareddryers special developed for web offset. Next to this every effort is made to provide a system that can be installed on your machine in such away as to optimize performance and yet, not require major press modifications that would cause extensive downtime on installation. Below you will see some of our standard IR dryers for web offset.

Jac. de Vries Infraroodtechniek supplies next to the standard IR dryers also other products which improve your drying process such as:
- Heat reflection to reduce the IR radiation and the visual light to the surroundings (the total length of the IR panel is increased by this with 50mm to each side).
- Edge exhaust to extract the heated air.
- Contact free measurement of the web temperature by using an IR temperature sensor.
- Automatic movement of the IR panel by the use of air pressure to increase the distance towards the web at a production stop. By this it becomes easy to lead the paper under or through the IR panels and is the fire risk decreased to a minimum.
