IR and UV radiation are a small part of the electromagnetic spectrum. The visible light has a wavelength of 380 nm to 760 nm. The area alongside with a longer wavelength is the IR spectrum. The majority of the IR radiation on earth comes from the sun. The area next to the visible light, with a shorter wavelength, is the UV spectrum.
\nEach wavelength transports a certain amount of energy. The faster the frequency of these waves, the shorter the wavelength and the more energy the radiation can transport. So the shorter the wavelength, the higher the frequency of the radiation, the more energy is transported into it.
\nThis means that radiation with a short wavelength can penetrate deeper into material. Because the IR radiation has a longer wavelength than the visible light, it is in principle not harmful to the human body. Of course by the application, the heating of material, you must always take into account that the product and the adjacent parts can also become hot.<\/p>\n
The IR radiation is subdivided into:
\n\u2022 short-wave IR (NIR), from 780 nm to 1500 nm
\n\u2022 medium-wave IR (MIR), from 1.5 nm to 4000 nm
\n\u2022 long wavy IR (FIR), from 4000nm to 1mm<\/p>\n
Infrared radiation is used for heating and drying products, for space heating and in heath care cabins.
\nThe choice of the wavelength to be used for heating and \/ or drying products depends on:
\n\u2022 the material from which the product is made
\n\u2022 the purpose, heating or drying
\n\u2022 the circumstances
\n\u2022 the productionproces<\/p>\n
The UV radiation is divided into three groups depending on the wavelength:
\n\u2022 UV-A, from 315 nm to 380 nm
\n\u2022 UV-B, from 280 nm to 315 nm
\n\u2022 UV-C, from 200 nm to 280 nm<\/p>\n
UV radiation is used for drying coatings and varnishes on many different materials.
\nThe UV radiation, by adding initiators to the paint and coating, initiates a curing process that runs very quickly. This makes the paint or coating instantly dry and scratch-resistant. Heat sensitive materials can also be irradiated with this.
\nWith the current generation of LED UV, very specific UV radiation of a certain wavelength can be emitted, so that much less energy is required for the drying process than with traditional UV lamps.
\nIn addition, the lifespan of the UV LEDs is many times higher (approx. 25000 burning hours) compared to the UV lamps (approx. 1000 burning hours).<\/p>\n
