There are different types of coatings that can be applied for coloring, decorating or protecting the basic material. The coatings can also be applied to all kinds of materials. Many applied coatings can then be excellently dried with infrared, whether or not in combination with air. The air can be blown over the surface by means of air knives. During the drying process volatile substances are released, usually water vapor which must be extracted in order to obtain an optimum drying result.
In addition to drying the coating, the infrared heater is also an excellent solution for pre-heating the coating material, so that the coating flows out better. For example, by first heating the material with infrared after applying a UV coating, the UV lacquer flows better. This makes it very equal distributed on the surface. The coating can then be cured with UV radiation panels.
The infrared panels transfer the heat by radiation to the processed material. That is why this method of drying is most suitable for flowing and drying coatings on flat surfaces. For drying on 2 sides, IR panels must therefore be installed on both sides. Drying complex 3D shapes can cause problems because the IR radiation cannot reach all parts. It is, however, possible to make the IR lamps in all kinds of shapes. There are, among other things, round curved versions available especially for round objects.
